The Toyota Tundra represents a formidable entry into the fullsize truck market. The 1st Generation trucks paved the way for both a bigger Tacoma and the excellent 2nd Generation Tundra. The Gen 1 Tundras share the same drivetrain as an open diff equipped Gen 1 Tacoma, with a 7.5” clamshell front diff and 8.4” open rear diff (E-locker not an option), making gear swaps an easy choice.

In 2007, the Tundra saw a complete redesign and evolution into either one of the heaviest duty ½-ton trucks, or lightest duty ¾ ton trucks, depending on who’s opinion you’re getting. With the available 5.7L V8 engine, the Tundra come equipped with a massive 10.5” rear diff that represents the largest evolution to date of Toyota’s proven design philosophy. All Gen 2 Tundras come with a 9” reverse rotation clamshell front diff. Thanks to their long factory control arms and stout drivetrain, these trucks make an excellent choice to build when Toyota’s legendary durability is a key component in vehicle selection.
