The Vanco Hydroboost System© puts out almost three times the braking pressure of normal vacuum assist units. Our system is recommended for extreme braking & Jeeps with 35" tires or larger. The Hydroboost System© works with 2 wheel & 4 wheel disc & works off your beefed up power steering pump. This is a complete Kit, Hydroboost, Master cylinder, Direct mount bracket, Rods and Hoses. Our system is 4.5" diameter and is perfect if you have a hydraulic clutch, blower or larger cam. We can custom make the Hydroboost for most vehicles.
These are hydraulic units that work off your power steering pump. It's like using a hydraulic ram to operate your master cylinder. The idea is very simple. They put out enough pressure and volume to make any current brake system stop the vehicle you're driving.
Vacuum boosters put out between 1,000-1,600 lbs of pressure to your brake system. The hydroboost puts out between 2,400-3000 lbs of pressure to your brake system. This is basically giving you the power to stop the vehicle. It's the actual clamping pressure your calipers or wheel cylinders have to clinch onto the rotor/drum.
Hydroboost have a shaft in them that directly operates the master cylinder. So when you are applying the hydroboost you only move the brake pedal 1/16 of an inch before you're applying the master cylinder. We also incorporate a much bigger master cylinder then a stock master on most vehicles. The combination of these two things severely shortens the stroke it takes to make the vehicle stop. The entire full stroke of a hydroboost is only 2.5 inches. You actually come to a full stop in your vehicle within 1 inch of brake stroke. If the booster should fail you get one power brake application. After that it reverts to true manual brakes. Since the shaft directly operates the master cylinder a failed hydroboost is twice as easy to stop then a failed vacuum booster. It will be a hard pedal, but foot pressure will work.
There are two types of Hydroboost available, a Hydroboost and a Hydroboost II.
Hydroboost - This unit puts out 2,500-2,700 lbs of pressure. It has a nitrogen chamber that allows for emergency stopping after the vehicle stalls. It can be used on any vehicle, however we recommend only using this booster and not the Hydroboost II if you have D44 axles or bigger or 36-53 inch tires as you need the extra power. This unit is 4.5 inches in diameter, with the 2-inch accumulator sticking out towards the engine at the 7 o’clock position.
Hydroboost II - This unit puts out 1,800-2,200 lbs of pressure. It has an internal accumulator, but the accumulator doesn’t work nearly as well as a standard Hydroboost after the vehicle stalls. We recommend this unit for stock axles and tires 35 inches or smaller. If you feel better with a Hydroboost that stops the vehicle after it stalls use the regular Hydroboost. This unit is 4.5 inches in diameter.
Power Steering Pumps - If you're using a Saginaw style pump (CJs) you don't need to upgrade your pump as long as your pump is in good working order. YJs, TJs ands most XJs need an upgraded pump. On the XJs 84-86 non diesels don't need to be changed, the diesel does, all XJs after 86 need a pump change.
Master Cylinder Line Kits - If you use our master cylinder for your TJ you'll need this kit to connect the master cylinder to the proportioning valve. It's offered for the YJ for the stainless steel braided look.
Master Cylinders - Your original master cylinders will not fit our Hydroboosts. If you choose to buy your own master cylinder please call so we can advise what models you can use.
Hi-Flow Process - This is a process you’ll need if you add Rock-Ram, Ram-assist steering or full hydraulic steering. Rams use more fluid then a typical Hydroboost allows. So we at Vanco hi-flow the units internally to greatly increase the flow so any vehicle with these types of steering work perfectly. |
